Christ is Risen!
Most Rev. Anthony Mancini
Archbishop of Halifax and Apostolic Administrator of Yarmouth
To the Priests, Deacons, Religious; And all the faithful People of God in Halifax and Yarmouth. Greetings! On the 29th November, 2007 through the providence of God, I will be installed as your 12th Archbishop. I am honoured to accept this call from the Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI and I am humbled by his confidence on my behalf. May it all be for the greater glory of God our Father and I ask Our Lord Jesus Christ for the grace to effectively and joyfully carry out this apostolic ministry. As I look forward in faith to our journey together, I count on your kind support and understanding as well as your experience of hope so that together, we may collaborate in building up the Church of Christ which is entrusted to us. Initially it will take time for us to get to know each other but I am hoping that with the help of the Holy Spirit, such knowledge will grow into familiarity and mutual love. I call on the Spirit of God to strengthen in us the spirit of unity, catholicity and holiness necessary for us to be Christ’s disciples. As I reflect on this turn of events, I find myself wondering who would have thought or who could have ever imagined that some 60 years after I first set foot on Canadian soil, in Halifax, at Pier 21, as a three year old child, that I would return among you as Archbishop. The Lord certainly works in mysterious ways. In the face of it all, I can only count on the Lord’s mercy and wisdom, as I resolve to serve you to the best of my ability. I take this opportunity to thank you all, priests, deacons, religious and laity for your trust in God’s love and for your openness to my appointment. I thank Bishop Claude Champagne who has served you well for these past months, as administrator and I continue to count on his counsel and cooperation in our shared ministry. Lastly I wish to entrust the life of our Catholic community to the vigilant care of our Blessed Mother, to whose honour is dedicated not only the Cathedral, but our entire local Church. †Most Rev.
