Stella Maris

Stella Maris, Meteghan, Nova Scotia

The Parish at Metaghan was established was established by Fr. Sigogne in 1815, and the first church, St. Mande, was consecrated in 1817. Later the name was changed to St. Martin. In 1885 a new church was erected.,the first "Stella Maris". It was destroyed by fire, May 20, 1943. A large Parish Hall served also as a church until December, 1967, when a new Stella Maris was finished. This almost new church also was burned to the ground, July 4,1971. The present church, externally very modern in design and the interior a gem of inspiring beauty, was blessed in 1972
