Saint JosephSt. Joseph, Kentville, Nova Scotia Prior to 1823, when the rigorous laws against the Church were repealed, if any Masses were said in the Kentville area, certainly no records would be kept. In 1853, the present church was built and organized Parish activities begun, on December 10 of that year. About 1905, it was almost completely rebuilt, and today is one of the finest anywhere. Among the priests who have served at St. Joseph's, the beloved Father Phillip Holden was Pastor for almost 43 years--1863-1906. He is interred just in front of the church door. In more recent years Msgr. J.H. Durney also enjoyed a long and productive Pastorate. Of interest beside the church is the grave of James de Lancey, 1799-1901, a man who had the very rare distinction of living in three centuries. Mass Hours:English Mass on Saturday at 7 p.m. and on Sunday at 9:00 and 11:15 a.m.
