Saint PatrickSt. Patrick's, Digby, Nova Scotia The first church in Digby, in 1843, was a small chapel on the hill above the town. It was served by priests from Plympton, Annapolis or elsewhere when available. For many years it was the Mission of Annapolis. Then, in 1930, came Fr. Leo Murphy to Annapolis, assuming charge of the huge area from Middleton to Digby. They were depression years but Fr. Murphy could not be daunted. Devoted, energetic, a man of great and generous heart, he gained the good will and the assistance of everyone, of every creed. In 1934, he constructed the basement for a new church in Digby. On August 10,1941, the new St. Patrick's was blessed by Archbishop McNally. The next year the Rectory was finished and Father Murphy became Digby's first resident Parish Priest, and also Chaplain at the Naval Base which he had been largely instrumental in procuring for the district.
